The Word which expresses Him is Om.

St. John,” In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.”

The Rig Veda:” In the beginning was Brahman, with whom was the Word, and the Word was truly the supreme Brahman.”

In the teachings of yoga, the Word is expressed as Om or AUM. It is the vibration of the power of supreme consciousness pervading the universe.

When meditating on OM, we keep our attention in the crown chakra. Then listen for subtle sounds in the inner ear and around the head. We may first hear a mixture of sounds. We continue to listen until the sound is constant, then merge with it and expand our awareness in it.

We then contemplate the sound of Om, go beyond Om and experience pure awareness or being.

The Search for Meaning in life

Generally when people become dissatisfied with their lives, they seek change. Change in their physical surroundings, in jobs, in relationships, in the personal interests. Yet, too often they find that these changes do not of themselves bring lasting happiness. It seems that a deeper meaning needs to be addressed. A meaning perhaps even at the soul level. But how is one to reach such a connection with ones intrinsic nature?

This often leads us to search for ways and methods that we hope will bring peace, joy and love into our lives, but where do we look for such answers?

New age publications are full of suggestions and ideas, but how are we to discriminate between that which is seductive and that which is growth enhancing and in accordance with our inner needs.

Since there are many methods that promise us the results we seek, we often go from one method to another and at times become more confused and disoriented or disillusioned in our search then when we started our quest..

This is like digging a number of shallow wells, yet none are deep enough to give us water.

Perhaps we need to see ourselves holistically. As a soul with a healthy physical body, having an active mind, healthy emotions or feelings and being spiritually awake. Then address each aspect specifically.

For many, addressing physical needs is the easiest. We can choose our intellectual stimulation. Our emotions and feelings are connected with our thoughts and imply a relationship with our inner and outer world.

This brings us to our spiritual life, a life without which we are incomplete. We can chose this life in our religion, in religions of other cultures, or in spirituality which implies that the discipline is absent of dogma and creed.

To awaken fully to the spirit within, requires active participation and commitment to any of the chosen paths. A desire to know the Supreme in whatever form the Omnipresent is real to us.

“To love Me is to know me”. Self and God Realization is the goal.
