Of
all the miracles performed by Jesus, the mightiest one was the spiritual
victory of divine love over evil: Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do
not know what they are doing” Luke 23:34 (NIV).These words have created in the
human hearts an everlasting memory to Christ love.
Jesus
could not be tempted to use divine power or any other means except love to
conquer hatred, even though he was able to consciously disintegrate his
enemies. Perhaps, even Satan used the crucifixion as the final temptation to
get Jesus to use his power to save his temporal body. Instead Jesus addresses
God, Father, be benevolent to your erring children, who have so wrongfully
persecuted me, ‘For they do not know what they do.’
Jesus
implied that all sins, consciously or unconsciously, are committed under the
influence of ignorance. Any soul who has attained divine wisdom will do no
evil.
Jesus
lifted himself up so far above the average human nature that he felt in himself
fatherly and compassionate feelings toward all humanity to intercede with the
Heavenly Father on their behalf.
